What is it?
This is a new approach for managing severe knee pain. It is an outpatient procedure that can help the following conditions: Chronic Knee pain, Severe Osteoarthritis of the Knee, patients who like to avoid a knee replacement, before or after total knee replacement, patients with severe medical comorbidities who are not good candidate for surgery.
How Long does the Procedure Take?
Diagnostic Genicular Nerve Blocks takes less than 30 minutes. Typically, a small amount of a local anesthetic is injected near the genicular nerves using Fluoroscopic guidance to determine the anatomic location of the 3 nerves. If the patient reports more than 50 % relief to their pain symptoms, we can schedule a therapeutic Genicular neurotomy by either thermal RFA or Cooled RFA.
